Submissions (Closed)

Big Sea Books submissions box is currently closed as of August 2024. Agented and unagented submissions will be welcome a later date.

Before submitting your manuscript, please review the guidelines below.

All submission must include:

  • Brief description of the manuscript in question that (ideally) includes the intended audience and/or age range, the type of work (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, graphic novel, etc.) and if applicable, genre.

  • Brief biography of the author. There is nothing specific you have to include, although it would be nice to know your legal and preferred name, preferred pronouns, and perhaps, what drove you to become a writer, etc.

  • Your manuscript. It may be a selection (minimum one chapter or twenty pages) or your entire work.

Please note, Big Sea Books will only consider one submission per writer at one time. If you have more than one manuscript you would like to have considered, please wait until you hear back about the previous one before submitting the next. Every submitted manuscript will be reviewed and every author will receive feedback. All we ask is that you please be mindful that Big Sea Books is a new publisher with a smaller team. We appreciate your patience as we review your work.

All submissions should be sent to: submissions@readingbigseabooks.com

Acquisitions

Our Acquisitions Team often looks through hashtags like #MSWL and #amquerying to see the interesting things that folks are working on. If there is a concept or pitch that is of particular interest, our team will attempt to comment on the post of or contact the creator/agent of said work/author.

However, please be mindful of scams. Big Sea Books will never request money from its authors to read their submissions; or charge you money to publish your book. Our team also leaves a direct email to our Founder (hello@readingbigseabooks.com) in all attempted correspondence; if you experience otherwise, it is likely NOT a representative of Big Sea Books.

Additionally, Big Sea Books is not in the business of wasting anyone’s time. If we interact with a post, reach out to your agent, or attempt to contact you by any means—it indicates that we believe in your story. Please be assured that we are not reaching out to anyone we aren’t seriously interested in publishing (which doesn’t mean we won’t welcome all the lovely submissions of stories we aren’t yet aware of!)
